Travis Champion was in bed playing Xbox when he heard a knock at his door. “All of a sudden, I heard a cracking sound,” Champion told the Atlanta Civic Circle. Two fire marshals with the Morrow Fire Department in Georgia had burst through the bedroom door, Champion said. Champion had moved into a single-family home with seven housemates only months before the marshals showed up on August 17. He was up-to-date on his rent and no actions had been filed against him in court.
