Pittsburgh man who admitted bank fraud submitted forged Colin Powell letter to court

A Pittsburgh man who earlier pleaded guilty to attempting to defraud Columbus-based Huntington and three other banks was back in federal court in Columbus Thursday after he submitted a forged letter claiming former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell supported leniency in his sentencing.

This time, Keith Darnell O’Kelly, 51, again pleaded guilty to bank fraud, plus an additional count of using a false document. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Norah McCann King, via video, Thursday afternoon.

According to court documents, O’Kelly worked at several banks, including a stint as a manager at a Huntington branch, submitting an employment application using someone else’s Social Security number. Between October 2017 and August 2018, he used account information stolen from two elderly bank customers in an attempt to pay $10,000 toward his own credit account.
